Welcome to WEEK 6 of The One Room Challenge ~ THE FINAL REVEAL!! I am so excited to share this room with you all! This is the first room we have ever gutted down to the studs and completely remodeled to suit us. We didn't change the footprint but we certainly changed the vibe and it is 100% us!!

A QUICK REFRESH- This room is our Daughters shared bathroom and it's the bathroom Guests use most often. Its also the room I have been the most embarrassed about since living here. The walk through into our master powder room just made it all the more embarrassing because everyone could see not 1 but 2 ugly rooms! The peel & stick tiles didn't stick anymore, the plastic shower insert was moldy, there was no trim or baseboards, the tub handle fell off constantly and the lighting was terrible.
OUR GOAL was to make this room feel warm and layered, an extension of the rest of our home. We wanted separate spaces for our daughters and we wanted the room to have a style that could grow with them and be suitable for our Guests.
WE ACCOMPLISHED THE GOAL by closing off the doorway to make room for a double vanity with plenty of storage space for the kids. We chose natural materials such as concrete, unfinished oak, marble and a neutral wall color to make the space feel warm, layered and timeless. Losing the door meant losing the natural light so we put our heads together and decided to build a transom window the exact length of the vanity to let in the natural light from our bathroom.

We chose products that would stand up to our kids abuse but also be beautiful for our guests. We mixed metals in flat black, modern brass, and champagne bronze to give the room a collected feel.

On to the other side of the room..
OUR GOAL was to keep the footprint for the sake of our budget by keeping the tub/shower combo but update it in a fresh and timeless way. We needed to let more light into the shower and make this whole side of the room feel more open.
WE ACCOMPLISHED OUR GOAL by removing the header and raising the ceiling in the shower to it's full ceiling height which let in the natural light from the transom window. We chose a subtle yet stunning tile for the shower with slightly varying shades of white and added champagne bronze shower trim for a little glam. We also knocked out the closet thinking we might add built-ins but once the space was open we realized how much bigger the room felt, it really opened the space up from the door as well. We decided to keep that space open and only add necessities like the hamper, an extra towel and a moment for some artwork. We painted the walls in Behr's Swiss Coffee and the trim Ultra Pure White to keep the space bright but warm.

THE DETAILS~
Once again we chose natural materials and neutral colors to keep the space warm. I love the combo of this terra cotta glazed tile with the warm champagne bronze trim. The tile and concrete floor play well together and add a lot of movement and visual texture to the room. The tub is extra deep and wide, a very efficient use of space for an alcove tub. It has been used multiple times by two very happy little girls who say it's like going to a spa.

PULLING IT ALL TOGETHER~
They say design is in the details and I couldn't agree more. I think every space (especially a new space) needs a few pieces that bring in some personality and a feeling of history. For us that's artwork, vintage pieces, family treasures and a beautiful rug that ties it all together. We selected artwork that reminded us of our cabin, a trip to Germany with my Grandparents, and a piece that had all the right colors and feelings we wanted to evoke in this room. We added some personal pieces like the blue vase that was my Grandmothers, a swan my Grandfather carved and a cute little folk art animal stool from a favorite small shop. The rug was really the piece that brought the whole space together; it tied the colors together, brought the feeling of history to the room and added the major vintage vibe this brand new room needed.

All of towels, hand towels, wash cloths and the bathmat you see spread around the room are from Garnet Hill. Ultra soft cotton and cotton/linen blends in white and white/beige stripe really cozied up the room. Both of the towel lines (linked below) are light weight and super absorbant.
