low-key design vibes, coming soon to your inbox

The first week of Summer is finally here and we're celebrating the only way we can... at home. Music, a big salad from the garden, a run through the sprinkler and a fire (with smores of course). Everything is different this Summer but nights like these are pretty much the standard for Summer nights in Wisconsin. We use our outdoor spaces as much as possible after those long winter months!

Our family loves Turkish towels because they are so easy to pack and bring with you everywhere but my kids were missing that cozy factor. We decided to try out the Mallorca Beach Towels from Serena & Lily and the Girls love them! They're made of pure Turkish Aegean cotton and they are incredibly soft, thick enough to be warm, cozy and absorbent but still dry out quickly! They passed the Girls perfect beach towel test with flying colors.

Sharing a few of my Summer favorites from Serena & Lily below!

You've probably seen these stools all over our house. They are super versatile! We've used them outside, in the bathroom, as nightstands, and side tables and as extra seating. They come in white or navy dip dye and now a solid teak that I am definitely going to grab soon. Linked them above!

Serena & Lily has a great pillow collection for indoors and out. These plaid pillows above have been a versatile neutral that have been on the sofa all year round.

I've been digging neutrals, rattan, and light wood tones this Summer! It all just feels so light and fresh, just what we're all craving right now. I rounded up a bunch of my favorites for you below. The outdoor pendants are on my list!!

Here is a quick round up of some of my favorite gardening books. You can find out more about each of them by clicking on the one you are interested in. I have personally read all of them and so many more but these are the books I own and refer to the most. "Carrots Love Tomatoes" and "Garden Primer" are the two I use most often. The others were really helpful when I was learning more about gardening. There are a few about cut flowers too. I like to grow flowers with my veggies as companions which you can learn more about in "Carrots Love Tomatoes".

If you are looking for inspiration "Gardenista" is the book that might give you some ideas for planning and planting a beautiful outdoor area. "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" is the true story of Barbara Kingsolver and her family growing all of their own food for a year. It's my favorite motivation book!

Personally I think you should read them all and any other gardening books you can get your hands on. I used to go to the library and check them out by the stack, scan every book for anything I had questions about and keep notes. I've kept gardening notes since the very beginning and I still refer back to them when I am unsure about something. It's also helpful to keep notes to remember where and when you planted things so you can figure out what works for you and what doesn't.

Hope you find something you like!

XO, Meg

Our skin is our largest organ and deserves good protection. Anything we spread on our skin seeps its way into our bloodstream affecting our organs, nervous system, hormones and so much more. Sunscreens can be awfully toxic so check out the EWG and ThinkDirty apps to rate yours. Remember to steer clear of anything with the word "fragrance" and glitter or shimmer, those are rarely a good thing in any of your products!

Here is a quick list of our go to sunscreens for the whole fam, all of them are rated a 1 or lower on the EWG's toxicity scale. Also worth noting- these brands are pretty clean in general but a few of them have some higher rated products so it's worth a look up if you stay on brand but change "flavors".

Meg
