Meet Sharlene Kayne, a Paper Collage Artist based in Los Angeles. Sharlene is a friend of mine through Instagram who could fit into my "Inspired By" category as well as my "Artist Spotlight". Not only is her artwork unlike any I have ever seen, (believe me, I own a Frida) she also has an incredible eye for interior design which you will see a little of below.

Sharlene's art is created using little bits of paper torn from bigger pieces of handmade paper that she has collected from around the world. The paper colors and variations, the way that she layers them, and the fact that paper never rips the same way twice, all ensure that no two pieces are ever the same.

Here's how you can grab an original for yourself! Sharlene posts a piece of her art on her Instagram stories here every Wednesday so that you can get a look at which piece will be available the next day. On Thursdays at 2:30pm PST she will post that piece for sale. The first to comment "❤️sold" is the buyer of the piece.

Additionally, Sharlene does a live sale of several pieces on her stories every month or two, always on a Thursday at 2:30pm PST. The pieces for sale will be shown in her stories the Wednesday before the live sale with a price and lot number. Once the live sale begins buyers can comment with the lot number and sold (for example "3sold") to claim a piece. You do not have to wait to see your piece during the sale, you may comment for purchase at anytime during the sale. Sharlene has a live sale tomorrow, 12/20, which means the pieces she will have available will be in her stories today!!

Now that you have all the info it's up to you to be there and make good use of your old Nintendo thumbs. Follow Sharlene on Instagram here and keep an eye on her stories. You can also sign up for her preferred email list right here for an extra notification! Her work sells FAST so you'll want all the notifications you can get!

Below are a few of my favorite past sold works and a few pictures of Sharlene's art in her own beautiful home. You'll find so much more of both on her Instagram.

Meet Hayley Keeton Mitchell, an artist and stay at home Mama to 4 littles. Hayley's love of creating and family blend together in her day to day life and the outcome is phenomenal. I first found Hayley through One Kings Lane long before I was on Instagram. I drooled over her prints until one day I finally bought one and my obsession doubled. I found her again a few years ago through Instagram and started following along with her personal account. Watching her work come to life and evolve has been pretty incredible!

A bit from Hayley...

"I am a Texas born and based artist, living in Austin. I've wanted to be an artist since childhood. I studied graphic design as I believed it would be a practical use of my artistic skill but it was not my niche. With 4 kids, and an in home studio, my two greatest passions of family and work are constantly intertwined, and are what inspire me on a daily basis. It is an arrangement that is both messy and imperfect but I love the flexibility it allows me.  I can paint and then put the baby down for a nap."

Hayley and I are hosting a giveaway on Instagram until 12/09, which you can find here. The winner will receive a print of their choice! Below you'll find a few of my favorite originals and prints but be sure to check out her website to see them all. She just dropped a bunch of new originals!

If you want all the insider access you can follow her personal Instagram account here to get a glimpse of what she's working on and a peek at her mad decorating skills. Her flash sale Instagram account is here so you can grab whatever is hot at the moment before it hits the website. I recommend following both!

Welcome to my first Artist Spotlight! If there is one thing y'all are constantly asking me about its art sources. Art is subjective and maybe the one thing you put in your home that really shows off your personality and style. It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks about your choices in art as long as it speaks to you! I don’t care if you find it in a dumpster, or the thrift store, or your kid made it. If it speaks to you, HANG IT UP. I’m not going dumpster diving for you anytime soon but I have been lucky to meet a lot of artists over the last few years and it makes me endlessly happy to introduce them to you outside of our tiny Instagram squares.

Today we are meeting my friend, Juniper Briggs. Juniper just launched a new collection and it is FABULOUS! I swear we didn’t plan our launches together. It makes sense though because we’ve joked about being soul sisters for the last few years. In fact I have a print that she named Soul Sisters after a discussion we had late one night.

Juniper is an absolute joy. A light in the day. Her smile and attitude towards life do the world some good. Juniper divides her time between her creative work and her family by working out of her home studio on an easel and workbench that her husband built for her. Her two sweet girls sometimes make an appearance in her studio and I’ve got a feeling someone might follow in her Mama’s footsteps.

Here’s what Juniper has to say about her new collection.

"This series was loosely inspired by the Kimono, a garment I find both aesthetically fascinating and beautiful. Steeped in symbolism, I was moved to explore this bold form of individual self expression through my own use of color, pattern and abstract design.”

You can find Juniper’s new collection, original artwork and prints in her shop right here.

You can follow her journey on IG here. Make sure to tune in to her Instagram stories to watch her work come to life.

XO, Meg
